Can I dress like Roy Rogers?

Q: Do you have helmets, boots and hats to borrow?
A: Yes, we have a full collection of helmets, boots and hats for our guests to borrow free of charge.

Q: What type of clothing should I bring?
A: Jeans for riding. Also, we suggest long sleeves to protect against the sun and brush. Layers are important because the temperatures can vary immensely from the early morning to the mid-afternoon. Some people may prefer to wear tights, long johns, or compression shorts underneath their jeans to prevent chafing. For dinner, a change of jeans is fine. Don’t forget sneakers or hiking boots for our hiking trail and a swimsuit to enjoy the pool and hot tub.

Q: Are there a washer and dryer on premises?
A: We have a washer and dryer available to our guests. Each load of laundry costs $5.

Q: What is the average time length of the rides?
A: From Monday through Saturday we have two rides: one in the morning, which lasts from 2 ½ to 3 hours, and one in the afternoon, which lasts from 2-2 ½ hours. On Sundays, we go on a slightly longer ride into the desert for a lunch cook-out, and then it’s just a short ride back to the ranch, where the horses rest for the afternoon.

Q: Does the riding program cater to both advanced and beginning riders?
A: Absolutely. Our riding program caters to the needs and desires of each guest. All guests are required to take part in an orientation ride, where the wranglers go over riding techniques and explain safety precautions. For the beginner rider, we have scenic rides that can be taken at a slower pace. The wranglers also can conduct rides geared towards teaching beginners how to trot and lope safely. For advanced riders, we have more challenging rides that can take you to the top of neighboring peaks or to long sandy washes where you can canter and gallop.

Q: How do we get to Kay El Bar from the Phoenix airport?
A: The Ranch is 75 miles from the Phoenix Airport. Guests can either rent a car, which gives the most freedom to explore the area, or use an airport transport service such as Wickenburg Airport Express (928-684-2888). We do not provide transportation to and from the airport.

Q: How old does my child need to be to ride?
A: Children must be 7 years of age or older to fully participate in our riding program. Children under 7 may be able to go on a ride around our corral led by a wrangler, if available. If you do have a child or children under 7, an adult must stay back to watch them. We do not have a child sitting service.

Q: What is the time zone in Wickenburg?
A: Mountain Standard Time all year; Arizona does not observe Daylight Savings Time.
